A historical photo album documenting the immigration of Libyan Jewry to the Land of Israel. Specially prepared by representatives of the Aliyah Office in Libya and dedicated to Yitzhak Rafael – a member of the Executive of the Jewish Agency and Head of the Aliyah Department, a position he held until 1953. Tammuz 5709 [1949] – Year II of the State of Israel. Rare.
The album contains 82 photographs inserted into designated pockets, documenting the immigration of Libyan Jewry to the Land of Israel – immigrants at the Aliyah Office in Tripoli waving the flag of Israel, registering their personal details before departing for the Land of Israel before representatives of the Jewish Agency, immigrants dancing the hora, a special rally held by the immigrants ahead of their departure, Jewish children photographed in Hebrew educational institutions in Tripoli, celebrations in the streets of the city — apparently upon hearing the news of the establishment of the State of Israel, immigrants from Tripoli aboard the ship Eilat en route to the Land of Israel, the disembarkation of immigrants upon arrival, and many more.
