A moving photograph taken at the end of the war – a family reunion in Germany within the American-occupied zone. Photographed by American photographer Harold Siegan on March 13, 1945, as part of the ACME photo team, for the War Picture Pool agency.

Two sisters reunited after the horrors. The reverse of the photograph is captioned by the photo agency: “Happy reunion – Germany, March 13, 1945: Two Polish girls, formerly employed as forced laborers for the Nazis, are joyfully reunited and embrace in a displaced persons shelter behind Allied lines. Civilian men and women captured by the German army – including Poles, Russians, Yugoslavs, French, and Dutch – were gathered by Allied forces from captured cities and moved to safe areas toward the end of the war.”

17×13 cm. Good condition.
