A rare group photograph of 25 partisans holding their rifles. Kharkiv – Ukraine, 1941.
Hundreds of Jewish partisans were active in the forests of the Ukrainian region. 5,000-6,000 Jewish partisans fought and rescued in the forests of Ukraine, which was occupied by the Nazis in July 1941. Most of the Jews who escaped from ghettos and camps joined non-Jewish partisan units in their area and did not establish their own units. The Vinnytsia region was one of the only ones where the Jewish partisans established an independent partisan body (“Utriad”).
18×13 cm. Described on the back in pencil. Very good condition.
