Various dignitaries associated with the university gathered at Einstein’s home in Princeton to attend an event marking his election as President of the Joint Board of the American Friends of the Hebrew University and the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science. Prof. Ben-Zion Dinur, seated next to Einstein, was a historian of the Jewish people, educator, professor of Jewish history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a member of Israel’s First Knesset representing Mapai. At the beginning of the Second Knesset (1951), he was appointed Israel’s third Minister of Education, serving until November 3, 1955, despite not being a Knesset member at the time.
