Letter of request for the “authorization form for the sale”, which Rabbi Yaakov Landa sent to the chief rabbinate on Tammuz 1937 – for the city of Bnei Brak in preparation for the year of Shmita, Hand signed and seal signed.
When Rabbi Kook immigrated to Eretz Israel, he authorized the execution of a sales permit (the sale of land in the Land of Israel to a Gentile, the purpose of which is to allow agricultural works in the year of the Shmita), because of the great distress of the new settlement whose livelihood depended on agriculture. The Rabbi of Safed, The Ridba”z, did not agree with him, and denied the permit. Rabbi Landa sent the Chief Rabbinate of Eretz Yisrael a signed form in which he gives her permission to sell the Bnei Brak lands before the year of the Shmita according to the same sales permit. The letter before us of was written before the Chazon Ish arrived to Eretz Israel. Later, Agudath Israel workers’ kibbutzim, in accordance with the rulings of the Chazon Ish, who also opposed the permit, implemented an alternative solution of Otzar Beit Din while relying on the rulings of the Chazon Ish regarding Shmita laws.
