A scathing letter in the handwriting and signature of Rabbi Yonatan Binyamin Halevi Horowitz. Jerusalem, 1906 – the year in which Rabbi Horowitz was sent to Eretz Israel as a representative of a committee in the Organization of Clerks of Amsterdam that supervises the distribution funds].
In his letter, the rabbi responds to criticism directed against him personally by one of the agency’s members (Rabbi Horowitz served as chairman of Agudat Israel in Eretz Israel), that although he serves as chairman, he has not influenced the management of affairs in a single idea. The letter itself was written in a foreign language and a copy in Hebrew is attached. The copy may also be in his handwriting and signature.
Rabbi Yonatan Binyamin Halevi Horowitz [1866-1940], rabbi of congregations, head of the Netherlands and Germany Kollel and representative of the Amsterdam Clerks’ Association in Jerusalem, chairman of Agudat Israel in Eretz Israel and member of the executive committee of Agudat Israel World. For many years he managed the Batey Machaseh in the Old City, and even lived there. In 1909, with the encouragement of Rabbi Shmuel Salant, he established the Darchei Chaim Workshop, a vocational school of the Etz Chaim Yeshiva, unique in the landscape of the old settlement. For many years he was the main supporter of Rabbi Chaim Yehoshua Kosovsky and his enterprises.
