A collection of approximately 120 original caricatures by the caricaturist Adar Darian – ink on paper – signed. Original caricatures drawn by Darian for the newspaper “Davar.” Some include a newspaper clipping from “Davar” where the caricature was published. The caricatures feature print instructions and the official ink stamp of the “Davar” newspaper. Israel, c. 1960s.
The collection includes large original caricatures featuring the character of “Srulik” many caricatures depicting Israel’s political landscape, its relationship with other countries, the Israeli economy, Jewish-Arab relations, state laws, and more.
Adar Darian was born in Bucharest, Romania, in 1931. He began creating caricatures in his youth, publishing them in the satirical magazine Pitigoiul and other outlets. In 1964, Darian immigrated to Israel with his family. He worked as a graphic designer and published numerous caricatures on various Israeli topics in major newspapers such as Maariv, Davar, Haaretz Shelanu (a children’s newspaper), HaOlam HaZeh, and also served as the graphic designer of Maariv L’Noar. From 1983 to 1989, he was the graphic editor of the monthly journal Etmol. He continued working at Maariv until 1991, when he returned to Romania, where he created a daily caricature for the Libertatea newspaper. In 2004, he returned to Israel. He passed away in 2015 at the age of 84.
