An aerial photograph of the city of Nagasaki completely destroyed after being bombed by an atomic bomb which was dropped by the United States and led to the surrender of the Japanese Empire and the end of World War II.
Nagasaki is one of the two Japanese cities on which the United States dropped a nuclear fission bomb (“Atom Bomb”) at the end of World War II. The bomb on Hiroshima – “little boy” – was dropped on August 6, 1945, three days later, on August 9, the second bomb, a plutonium bomb – “fat man” was dropped on the Christian port city of Nagasaki, where Japan’s military industry was concentrated. As a result of its throwing, 74,800 people were killed that day.
