This work is one of the very few texts by the Vilna Gaon that was preserved in his original handwriting, as noted in the approbation by his grandson: “In his possession was an old copy in the holy handwriting of my grandfather, the Gaon, of blessed memory, in this wisdom, and my honored uncle labored greatly to correct and restore it.” In the publisher’s foreword, R. Shmuel ben Yosef Meluknik writes: “This is an actual manuscript… and I rejoiced over it as one who finds great spoil…”. With approbations by Rabbi Avraham Abele, Rabbi Yissachar Ber ben Tanchum, and Rabbi Yaakov Moshe ben Avraham, son of the Gaon of Vilna.
