An antisemitic wooden marionette in the figure of a Jew with a long nose and sidelocks. Parts move by pulling the strings. Europe, late 19th century.
Such puppets were used to accompany popular folk music or as a character in a show — in this case, an antisemitic character. The Jig Doll was handmade from readily available wood. The nails at the arms and legs allow smooth swinging movement.
Height: 18 cm. Slight flaw at the tip of the left shoe. Other than that, good condition.
