An ashtray designed in the shape of the Olympic Stadium in Los Angeles, where the 10th Olympic Games took place in 1932. United States, 1932. Hand-carved and hand-painted limestone.

An elliptical ashtray, with the inscription in the center: LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA and on the left side: Xth OLYMPIAD 1932. A rare souvenir item from the Olympic Games.

At the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, the modern podium was introduced for the first time – a raised stand with three tiers, where the gold, silver, and bronze medalists stand as their national anthem plays in the background. This simple idea has since become one of the most recognizable symbols of the Olympic Games. The combination of the Great Depression and Los Angeles’ great distance from Europe led to small delegations from European countries, compared to previous Olympics. However, 18 world records were broken or equaled in various sports. In athletics alone, 10 new world records were set. (Bill Carr of the United States set a time of 46.2 seconds in the 400-meter race, a new world record, and more).

Size: 16×11 cm. Height: 3 cm. Slight flaw on the right side. Wear on the edges. Good condition.
