JUSTICE at Nuernberg, The greatest trial in history as pictured by the camera of CHARLES W. ALEXANDER with text by Anne Keeshan – Justice at Nuremberg, the greatest trial in history as photographed by Charles W. Alexander with text by Anne Keeshan, published by Marvel Press, United States, 1946 – First Edition. A historic photo album from the Nuremberg Trials. Rare.

An important photo album meticulously documenting the events of the Nuremberg Trials. The album contains approximately 90 photographs bound in a spiral format – full-page plates described individually on the facing page. Photographer Charles W. Alexander captured dozens of courtroom scenes for the office of the Chief Counsel for the United States and for the tribunal, publishing them in this album.

In the photographs: preparations for the trial, entrances to the Nuremberg courthouse, Allied soldiers guarding the cells of Nazi war criminals, images of the courtroom being prepared for the sessions, rare close-up photographs of Nazi criminals in the courtroom, Nazi war criminals standing during cross-examinations in the courtroom, prosecution and defense teams during pivotal moments of the trial, Holocaust survivors giving testimony during the proceedings, the prosecution team collecting evidence, reporters working in the courtroom, the audience present during the trial, security arrangements and guarding of Nazi war criminals in their cells, and rare scenes from the verdict.

A foreword by U.S. Chief Prosecutor Robert Jackson writes:
“…The defendants were, for the most part, men of impressive careers who held high positions in a regime that the world feared and largely despised. The accusers were four victorious nations that could have executed the defendants without trial but believed it more consistent with the principles for which they fought to grant the defendants fair hearings and to establish their guilt before the world. The crimes they were accused of were… crimes against humanity: the massacre of millions, the enslavement of millions more, torture… A trial of this nature, of course, held immense public interest. As few could visit the ruined city of Nuremberg or observe the proceedings, the contemporary world had to learn about them second-hand. The most effective medium, both for current communication and for future documentation, was photography. This volume contains images of the principal events and individuals directly connected to the trial….”

188 pages. 29 cm. The front cover is detached; apart from that, in very good condition.
