The recipient of the book, Peter Bergson, known by his Hebrew name “Hillel Kook” headed the “Bergson Group”, which worked to save European Jews in the United States during the Holocaust, and was a member of the Knesset at the Constituent Assembly. After World War II, szyk joined the revisionist “Bergson Group” led by Hillel Kook, who defined it as “the one-man art department”. In those years, szyk was swept away by the fervor of the Zionist ideal, while sympathizing with the Irgun and Lehi underground groups.
