Anti-Semitic Mask – The Jew Depicted as a Devil with a Long Nose and Horns. Germany, 1930s. Manufactured in Germany for Use in Anti-Semitic Carnivals Held in Various Cities After the Nazis Rose to Power.

During the years when the Nazi party was in power, popular carnivals were held in Germany, particularly in southern and western regions. These carnivals featured parades of people in costumes and displays with strong anti-Semitic themes. In these processions, SA members forced Jews to carry anti-Semitic signs denigrating themselves, such as “A German does not buy from a Jew, ” in acts of public humiliation. For example, at the 1934 carnival in Cologne, Nazis paraded in costumes with long noses on their faces. Throughout the 1930s, the traditional Irbadlen festival in the town of Leisling regularly featured anti-Semitic displays and signs against Jews.

Size: 36×21 cm. Condition: Very Good.
