Mordechai Ehrenpreis (1869-1951), Hebrew author, rabbi and Zionist. Even before the establishment of the World Zionist Organization, Ehrenfreiz worked to promote the idea of Jewish nationalism, which is centered in the Land of Israel. In 1897, he was appointed “secretary of the committee for preparations of the Zionist Congress” (before the first Zionist Congress in Basel) From 1896 to 1900, Ehrenfries served as a rabbi in the community of Jakub in Croatia. From 1900-1940, he served as Chief Rabbi of Bulgaria and later immigrated to Sweden and became Chief Rabbi of Stockholm. During WWII, he was involved in efforts to rescue Hungarian Jews and used his connections to influence the King of Sweden to appoint Raoul Wallenberg as a rescue agent.
