Nathan (Nathanel) Meir Rothschild was a British Jewish banker and politician, a member of the Rothschild family. He was the first Jewish member of the House of Lords. Born in London, the son of Lionel de Rothschild, who was the first Jew to serve as a member of the British House of Commons. His grandfather, Nathan Meir Rothschild, was the founder of the British branch of the Rothschild family. Natan was born four years after his death and was named after him. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was a friend of the Prince of Wales, (later King George V), but dropped out before taking his degree. In 1867 he married his relative, Emma Louise von Rothschild (1844–1935), from the German branch of the family.
