The photographs appearing in the booklet: Camp No. 1 as seen from the guard tower, camp ground covered with corpses, memorial monument to 30,000 Jews who perished in the camp – erected on the first day of liberation, bodies of the victims, the gaze of suffering – elderly inmate in poor physical condition, truck full of corpses, photograph of the criminal Nazi camp commander Josef Kramer (convicted of war crimes and hanged at Hamelin prison), head of the sanitary service at the camp during the liberation General Glyn Hughes, SS women removing the dead, the English burning down the camp with a picture of Hitler, the crematorium, “No Entry” sign erected by the English at the camp area.
The booklet is accompanied by memoirs from Dr. Nachum Goldman, chairman of the Central Committee for the Liberation of Jews from Belsen and the area, H. L. Glyn, as well as words written by the booklet’s editor about the structure of the exhibition and the displayed items. The second part documents in detail the atrocities committed by the Nazis in Bergen-Belsen and the days of the camp’s liberation.
