Charles Kingsley [1819-1875] English priest and writer. He studied at Maudeline College in Cambridge, and from 1844 he was parish priest in Eversley in Hampshire. In 1859 he was appointed personal chaplain to Queen Victoria. One year later he was appointed professor of modern history at the University of Cambridge. Kingsley was known for his wars for various social reforms. His works include the popular children’s book Children of the Water (1863), historical romances and a book of lectures on history, The Roman and the Teutonic (1864).
