En Israël – “B’Yisrael” – Trente zincs originaux de CHARLES HUARD sur des légendes de JEAN MABLY – Thirty original lithographic zinc plates by Charles Huard (signed in the plate), based on the legends of Jean Mably. An anti-Semitic work dedicated to the ideologue and anti-Semitic propagandist Édouard Drumont. Published by Paul Lemaire, this is considered one of the most venomous anti-Semitic publications from the late 19th century. Paris, C. 1895

The plates depict private scenes of wealthy Jews allegedly conspiring with Rothschild to take over France. The Jews are caricatured as fat, well-fed individuals with long noses, each plate accompanied by captions portraying them as law-disregarding and solely focused on their economic self-interest. Some of the caricatures are intended to “explain” the supposed methods of Jewish operations. For example, one illustration shows Jews conversing among themselves: “Citizens, let’s allow the great money barons to monopolize all the wealth; through social evolution, this capital will one day belong to the community!” Another caricature, aiming to illustrate Jewish control over the highest ranks, shows a fat Jew graciously agreeing to meet a prince, saying, “Your Highness, come in, dear. I only have a few minutes before the stock exchange.” A depiction of Jewish extortion features a Jewish art dealer taking paintings on commission, saying to a client: “I take 80%, and if your paintings don’t sell in ten days, you’ll pay me a hundred francs a day for the exhibition.” Another caricature depicting Jewish imperialism shows a Jewish Algerian merchant with the caption: “I took the money, I took the land, I’m a French citizen, and my son may one day be governor of Algeria.” Other caricatures hint at Jewish control over the justice system, involvement in the Panama scandal, and more.

The title “B’Yisrael” implies an insider’s view of the Jewish people, purportedly exposing their methods of wealth accumulation and deceit at the expense of others. The cover illustration is designed to portray the duplicitous nature of Jews, featuring grotesque Jewish faces in the form of a mask.
