CERTIFICAT DE NON APPARTENANCE A LA RACE JUIVE – Certificate of Non-Affiliation with the Jewish Race belonging to Mrs. Dreyfus, a Jewess née Viquet de Rodlinghem. Paris, July 20, 1944. A life-saving certificate.
The certificate includes her personal details – born in 1892, and confirmation that: “ne doit pas être regardé comme juif aux termes de la loi du 2 juin 1941.” – “is not to be regarded as Jewish under the terms of the law of June 2, 1941.” On the reverse of the certificate is a stamp: “certifié conforme à l’original” – “certified as a true copy of the original, ” as well as confirmation that “it was presented to us and returned on May 26, 1944,” along with the handwritten signature of the district police commander in Paris, and an ink stamp of the “COMMISSAIRE DE POLICE” – Paris Police.
By means of such certificates, a small number of Jews in France managed to pose as French nationals or as members of other nations, thereby escaping death.
