A group photograph of Chevra Kadisha gravediggers holding shovels in their hands after they finished burying the dead. The one standing second from the right is holding the charity fund for collecting money on the day of death for the upliftment of the dead soul. Photographed after the German occupation of the town of Lodz during the First World War.
extremely rare. It does not appear in Gerard Silvain's book "Yiddish land" which contains a treasure of rare Jewish photo postcards from Eastern Europe from the time of the First World War.
