15 issues (mostly consecutive) of the groundbreaking magazine in the Hebrew Yishuv: “The Woman A monthly magazine dedicated to the life and affairs of women in Eretz Israel” – published by the Hebrew Women’s Organization in Eretz Israel and the Zionist Women’s Organization of America “Hadassah”. One of the earliest monthly magazines published in Eretz Israel dealing with the life of the Hebrew woman and promoting her rights. The magazine was published between 1926 – 1929, before us a collection of almost all the issues that came out. Rare.
First year: Booklets: 1-8 consecutive, Nissan 1926-1927.
Second year: Booklets 1, 2, 5, and 6, and “Another Booklet” – 1928-1929.
Third year: Booklets 1, 2, 3 – 1929.
The various issues that were considered groundbreaking were the first to deal with the Hebrew woman and her needs. The issues regularly dealt with the entirety of the Hebrew woman’s experience, and for the first time in the history of the Yishuv and in general, they included articles dealing with women and gender equality on topics such as: “The Women’s Association for Equal Rights”, “The Woman in Eretz Israel”, “The Question of the Worker in Eretz Israel”, for the first time the subject of women’s vote was discussed “The Woman and the Assembly of Representatives”, “The Professional Training of the Immigrants”, “What shall we wear – the time has come for the Hebrew woman in the Land of Israel to look a little at her outfits”, “Modern Hebrew education for Girls in Eretz Israel”, “The Hebrew women Poets”, “The Woman in the Zionist Congress”, “The working woman and the protection of the law for her”, “The History of the Women’s Movement in Em HaMoshavot”, The Women of WIZO and Hadassah, and more. Among the writers were men and women such as Avigdor Hameiri, Dr. Rachel Levin, Rachel Feigenberg, Else Lasker Schiller, Asher Barash, Hannah Tahun, and many others.
The Issues were printed on thick and fine paper. At the beginning of the first issue is a photograph of Rachel’s Tomb by photographer Benor-Kalter.
