A rare Jewish publication issued on Hungarian soil less than a year after the end of World War II. The booklet was intended for the She’erit Hapletah and includes articles on the care for the remnants of the Jewish community in Hungary left behind after the Holocaust, documentation of the crimes of Nazi Germany, Hebrew language instruction, the mission and purpose of the Hachsharah – to renew agricultural labor in the Land of Israel, forgotten during centuries of exile, the difference between conditions in the Land of Israel and those in the Diaspora, preparation for collective life in a kibbutz, assistance for immigrants to the Land of Israel, and more. This is a fascinating testimony to the tremendous efforts made by survivors in Hungary to restore Jewish, Zionist, and religious life immediately after the end of the fighting. The Bachad movement (Brit Halutzim Datiyim) was the pioneering arm of Hapoel Hamizrachi, dedicated to training young people for immigration to the Land of Israel through hachsharah kibbutzim operating in and around Budapest.
