8 real photo postcards with “Shana Tova” greetings to relatives and friends, signed and handwritten, sent from various locations across Europe where the senders were staying shortly before Rosh Hashanah. Among them, rare examples. Early 20th century.

A postcard sent from Rominten in East Prussia (then a German region), featuring a view of the imperial hunting palace and chapel, to the territory of the Russian Empire. On the front, a Hebrew New Year greeting: “May you be inscribed and sealed immediately for life, and you shall answer me ‘you too, ’ and let us all say Amen!!!”. On the verso, a personal inscription in Yiddish by the sender, Mordechai son of Yaakov Medvetsky.

A postcard from Arnstadt (Thuringia), with an image of the Jewish street. Sent on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, September 7, 1909, to Berlin. It bears the greeting “May you be inscribed for a good year, with blessings of peace, Yitzchak” on the front, and a long personal letter on the verso.

A postcard sent from Trieste to England in 1905, with text in Italian and the greeting “Leshana Tova” signed in Hebrew, along with the addition in Italian: “We wish our friend Sam and his family all the best…”.

A real photo postcard of the statue of Lesseps in Port Said, Egypt. Sent on September 20, 1938 (three weeks after the outbreak of World War II). On the front, an ink stamp of the greeting “May you be inscribed for a good year” and the date.

A postcard from Tsarist Russia featuring a photograph of the Staraya Russa spa site, with children seated in the foreground. Sent in September 1913. On the verso, an ink stamp “May you be inscribed for a good year” and a handwritten greeting from the sender (in Russian): “Dear Sonya, I congratulate you on the occasion of the New Year and wish you much happiness and health. Yours, A. Grushko.” Sent to “Vilna Governorate” – then part of the Russian Empire (today Lithuania/Belarus), with a Nicholas II stamp.

A real photo postcard depicting the façade of the Berlin Zoo. Sent from Berlin to Eretz Israel in September 1926. On the verso, the greeting is written in Hebrew: “My dear Mr. Z. Zeglerodsky, I hereby send him and his family a blessing for a good and successful year. Kindly deliver this to him. Yehoshua Afersky, ” and the date.

An American postcard featuring a photograph of an exhibition building in Sacramento (early 20th century), bearing a red stamped inscription “May you be inscribed for a good year / A Happy New Year” (not sent by mail).

A Swiss postcard depicting the Bretaye Alpine region, with a letter describing vacation days in German and New Year greetings, sent to the Netherlands, and bearing a Hebrew stamp “May you be inscribed for a good year.”
