Collection of 24 New Year postcards – all featuring winged angel figures. Published by Zentral (Warsaw), Reznik, Williamsburg, and others, early 20th century. Some rare.
A remarkable collection in which each postcard, from various publishers, depicts winged angelic figures delivering New Year blessings. The scenes share stylistic similarities, though no two cards are identical—none are duplicates. Among them: “L’Shanah Tovah” – Zion – postcards of angels holding a Star of David, some hand-colored; “L’Shanah Tovah – Mi Yichyeh” – published by Shimin (with handwritten Yiddish text on verso); “L’Shanah Tovah Tikatev v’Techatem” – a pair of angels, crowned, sheltering between columns with their wings – postcard published in Hamburg and postmarked 1907; an angel greeting new immigrants arriving in the Land of Israel; studio postcard series featuring an angel holding scales, pointing heavenward for telescope-gazers, hovering over children, or facing the open Book of Life, and more. In this series, produced in parallel in Warsaw and New York, the postcards are similar in composition, with minor variations in background design or character details – all bearing New Year greetings in Yiddish.
Some cards were circulated. Overall condition: good – very good.
