Collection of photographs of members of the Arab, Druze, and Christian communities alongside Israeli diplomats and senior officials at various public events. Israel, 1950s–1960s. Photographer: Yehuda Ariel of Haaretz newspaper – most of the photographs are annotated on the reverse by the photographer himself and bear his official ink stamp: “Yehuda Ariel – Nahariya”. Some are dated.

Appearing in the photographs: President Yitzhak Ben-Zvi visiting Al-Jazzar Mosque in Acre alongside representatives of the Arab and Druze sectors; the Lebanese Deputy Chief of Staff alongside bishops (on the reverse, photographer Yehuda Ariel noted: “The Deputy Chief of Staff did not notice he was seated beneath the emblem of the State of Israel and the portraits of Ben-Gurion and Yitzhak Ben-Zvi, and was alarmed when he realized it after the photo was taken”); a police officer at a shared meal with Druze and Muslims; portrait of Muhammad Rashid, Mukhtar of the village of Sha’ab; joint meal of Christian clergy with Druze, Muslim, and Jewish religious leaders; Dr. Ephraim Salomon receiving Druze patients at the clinic in Majdal Shams; visit of dignitaries to the home of Mukhtar Najib Ali in Beit She’an following a measles outbreak in the area; “Canaan Nights – Shepherds’ Encampment” – a Bedouin tent hosting honored guests; a delegation of dignitaries visiting the village of Kisra; the dead leopard fought off by the Bedouin from Me’arav al-Aramsha; Yitzhak Hirsch Reznik brought into custody after being suspected in the murder of Swiss national Werner Keidinger; and more.
