PRAMIENSCHEIN Konzentrationslager Dachau – Concentration Camp Dachau coupon for 1 Reichsmark used by Prisoner No. 3255 at the Dachau Concentration Camp. Germany, c. 1940.
The primary function of the Dachau concentration camp was to serve as a labor camp: an ammunition factory exploiting forced labor of prisoners for expanding the camp. At the front of the camp stood the “Wirtschaftsgebäude” (Economic Administration Building). This building served as a kitchen, clothing warehouse, laundry, workshop rooms, and administration office, and it was here that prisoners were given the opportunity to use coupons they received, primarily for purchasing cigarettes.
