COLONIZACION JUDIA EN LA REPUBLICA ARGENTINA – Jewish Colonization in the Argentine Republic – FUNDACION DE MOISES VILLE – Moises Ville Foundation. Flag made of fabric marking the beginning of Jewish colonization in Argentina – on the left a Magen David with a portrait of the Jewish philanthropist Baron Maurice de Hirsch inside, who through the Jewish Colonization Association (JCA – ייַדישע קאָלאָניזאַציע אַסאָציאַציע) that he established, helped organize and financially support the large migration of Eastern European Jews to America (and especially to Baron Hirsch’s colonies in Argentina) in the late 19th century. Encircled with fields of Jewish employment on land and sea, and the inscription “75 ANIVERSARIO”.
In addition to JCA, in 1891 Baron Hirsch founded a fund in the United States for the welfare of Jewish immigrants, to which he dedicated a total of £493,000. The fund provided financial assistance to Jewish immigrants from Russia and Romania during their first two years in the US, and also established an English language school for children to quickly integrate into public schools, and a school for adults to allow integration into the job market. The fund also established a vocational school where carpentry, painting, plumbing, mechanics and electricity were taught. The fund also established an agricultural farm in New Jersey where Jews found most suitable for farming work were sent. It also founded an agricultural school for boys.
