Golden pendant – A victory medal of a Partisan at the World War II Ski Competition held in Čerkno, Slovenia in 1945. A plate depicting a skier against the backdrop of a partisan holding his rifle, with the inscription: CERKNO PARTIZANSKE SMUCINE – “Čerkno Partisan Skiers” and the year: 1945. Also enclosed: A handwritten page with the life story of the partisan who owned the pendant, especially during the war years.

The Čerkno Partisan Ski Competition was held on January 20 and 21, 1945 in the Čerkno area in three disciplines: cross-country ski patrol, giant slalom and ski jumping. It took place while the final battles of WWII in Slovenia were still raging. Čerkno was surrounded by nearly 15,000 enemy German and other units within an 80 km radius. Due to this and the snowy weather, some participants did not manage to arrive on time. Over a thousand spectators, including many Allied soldiers, gathered at the site. On January 20, 7 cross-country ski patrols with 3 competitors each took part. The patrol of the Prešeren Partisan Battalion won, the patrol of the Vojko Battalion came in second, the patrol of the Gradnik Battalion came third.

Plate: 5.5×3.5 cm. Original red blue and white fabric chain. Condition good – very good.
