Alexandre Weill [1811-1898], a French writer and journalist, and a fierce polemicist, is considered the first French writer who conceived the idea of describing rural scenes and writing rural idylls. Among his many admirers are Giacomo Meyerbeer and Victor Hugo. Weil was fluent in several European languages. He arrived in Paris in 1837, and soon paved the way for himself in the high circles of the French capital. Authored several books.
