Hedim MeHaBait [Echoes from Home] – a one-time newspaper in stencil printing, published by the Histadrut of Hebrew Workers in Eretz Israel – Nesher Workers’ Council for Brigade Soldiers – Issues 1-8.

Between December 1944 and January 1946, the Nesher Workers’ Council published a special newspaper which was sent to the brigade soldiers who had served in the various countries. The purpose of the newspaper was to update them on the news that is happening in Nesher in particular, and in the Jewish community in general, as the editor in the first issue said: “We have decided to take the ‘Echoes from Home’ in order to invent for you a little of what is happening with us, and we ask each of you to comment …”. At the time of printing the first issue, only 13 members from the ‘Nesher’ community served in the Jewish Brigade, and the initiative was for them only. The various issues report on those elected to the Poalei Nesher Council, the basic balls of the Young guard, securing jobs for the brigade soldiers after they return from the battlefield, congratulations on the holidays, gift packages sent to the soldiers, gatherings on May 1, special issue at the end of World War II (issue No. 6: “The world war is over, countries and peoples, even the most suffering, are rebuilding their homeland … not only they but also destroyers and murderers of our people, smashing our children’s pulley … preparing to continue as if nothing had happened …”), reported on Brigade soldiers who were released and returned home, and other matters.

A rare publication that does not appear in the National Library.

8 consecutive issues (as far as we know they have not been published more), each issue one page. Stencil printing. Attached are five postal envelopes in which the sheets were sent to the Brigade soldier. Very good condition.
