Chok leIsrael’ with the introduction of the HIDA and introduction of Rabbi Avraham Baruch Piperno. Two long glosses in the handwriting and the signature of the genius Rabbi Yedidia Monsoonigo.
The Mussonigo Family of the Greatest Rabbis in fez, Morocco. Rabbi Yedidia Monsonigo I [1799-1868], son of Rabbi Raphael Aharon Monsonigo Rabbi of fez, in his youth he studied with Rabbi Avraham Ibn Danan and probably also with his father. In the year of his father’s death, he was elected to serve in the Tribunal, serving in this capacity for twenty-eight years. He composed dozens of essays on questions and answers in halacha, sermons and innovations. Apart from his remarkable greatness in the Torah, he was a great poet and composed many poems, but only a few of his poems survived. One of his famous poems is a lament for killing the girl Solika Hijuel in 1834. During a narrow and distressed period in fez in 1834 he composed a piyut “Mi camocha” including 61 houses against the days of trouble. His two sons passed away in his life and named his books by Their names. Likewise one of the great fez Rabbi Yedidia Monsonigo II who served as the Chief Rabbi of Morocco. In the copy before us various glosses by the Monsoonigo family may be glosses of rabi Yedidia Monsoonigo the first, as well as glosses by Morocco’s Monsoonigo great grandson.
