The Synagogue de la rue des Tournelles was inaugurated on September 15, 1876. The synagogue’s original Jewish community was mostly French Jews from the Alsace and Lorraine regions of northeastern France. Later they were joined by immigrants from Poland, Tsarist Russia and other countries from Central Europe.
