Issue of VOILA newspaper from August 2, 1935, which reports on the visit of the German representative von Reuter to France, where he attempted to promote the application of Nazi racial theory in France. Reports on the Nazis’ intentions to castrate Jews in Germany, Nazi abuse of Jews in Berlin, and deportation of Jews to concentration camps. The newspaper also reports on an anti-Semitic exhibition that was presented at the time in Berlin (apparently one of the early versions of the “Degenerate Art” exhibition, which was officially presented in 1937).
The title reads ‘Hitler contre Jesus’ – “Hitler against Jesus”. The article begins with a description of the situation in the Reich cities: “Jews and Catholics are persecuted by the Reich government and by the Nazis, led by the great master of hatred Doctor Goebbels. The war against the Jews takes on a thousand forms: films, boycotts, beatings, pogroms. Jewish stores in Berlin are covered with insulting graffiti: “I am a Jew, the Germans buy in my store at their own risk…”, names of girls and young women associated with Jews are published in the press… Jews accused of crimes against the Aryans are arrested and sent to a concentration camp…” Likewise, the writer describes that the Catholic Christians are also persecuted by the Nazis because the Christian verve which places all human beings as equals contradicts Nazi racial theory. The writer calls it: “the struggle between the swastika and the cross of Christ.”
Continuing, the newspaper reports on a racist exhibition that opened in Berlin, which presents the superiority of the Aryan race over the Jewish race, and recommends to its visitors various ways of preserving the race. The writer reveals a shocking fact that the German representative von Reuter came specifically to France to meet with the staff of the International Ministry of Health in order to recommend the implementation of Nazi racial theory in France, as part of his visit he recommended the systematic castrate of Jews in order to suppress the proliferation of the population of the Semitic race, claiming that even “civilized” countries use castrate to dilute the population. The president of the ministry rejected his proposals to a later date, thereby effectively expressing his refusal to them.
The article is accompanied by photographs presented by the Nazis themselves in an attempt to show the superiority of the Aryan race over the Jewish race, depicting Jews in stereotypical faces alongside Aryans, as well as exhibits from the anti-Semitic exhibition. (One of the photographs show installations from the Entartete “Kunst” – “Degenerate Art” exhibition that officially opened two years later in 1937 – possibly one of its early versions of the notorious exhibition).
