Jerusalem, Bethany, and Bethlehem by Josias Leslie Porter, published by Thomas Nelson and sons, London 1887. Dozens of engravings, and a large color panorama – Opening lithograph of the city of Jerusalem 80×30 cm.
A travel book accompanied by 155 engravings of important sites in Jerusalem, the city gates, the residents of the country in their traditional clothing, Rachel’s tomb, and other cities of the country, some of them large over entire page. On the page after the cover there is a printed dedication to ‘Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales’. The author lived for several years in palestine and carried out several journeys and meticulous investigations in the country. He was also a friend of Dr. Thomson, who was considered one of the leading authorities in the study of the Land of Israel in the 19th century. Some of the engravings that appear in the book originate from Thomson’s works, and some were made directly from photographs taken by Dr. Lortet. The descriptions in the book are partly based on the author’s own travels, and he added to them things published by the “Palestine Research Fund”.
