Jewish Marriage Certificate and Birth Certificate issued in Berlin and Mainz in August–September 1938, in accordance with directives from the Nazi Population Registry Office in Berlin.

1. Official German Marriage Certificate (Heiratsurkunde) for Gottfried Julius Müller and Johanna Bondi (Müller), explicitly identifying them as “Jews.” The certificate was issued on September 5, 1938, in Berlin during the period of the Third Reich. It is an officially certified copy (beglaubigte Abschrift) issued by the Berlin Registry Office (Standesamt), signed by the registrar (Standesbeamte) named Pohl, and stamped with the official Nazi seal featuring the swastika and eagle. The certificate also bears the signatures of both spouses. Although the marriage originally took place in 1926, the document was resubmitted in 1938 to the Reich authorities for the purpose of re-registration and updated identification under new anti-Jewish regulations—typically related to emigration or racial classification.

2. Official German Birth Certificate (Geburtsurkunde) for Johanna Bondi, as mentioned above. Issued in Mainz on August 30, 1938, by the Mainz Registry Office (Standesamt Mainz), bearing the official Nazi stamp with eagle and swastika and the inscription Standesamt Mainz. Father: Martin Bondi, profession: wine merchant (Weinhändler), listed as of the Israelite religion (israelitischer Religion). Mother: Emilie Bondi, née Seligmann, also listed as of the Israelite religion. Place of birth is recorded as the family home in Mainz. The document is also signed by the father, Martin Bondi.

The reissuance of both the marriage and birth certificates by Nazi authorities in August–September 1938 strongly indicates that the family was likely preparing to emigrate, facing a change in legal status, or was required to submit official documents as part of the racial classification process. The registry offices (Standesämter) were a central tool used by the Nazi regime to identify Jews and legally separate them from the “Aryan” population.

Both certificates in good condition.
