Large photograph of the entrance gate to the Lodz (Litzmannstadt) Ghetto – A German Gestapo officer closing the ghetto gate above which hangs the sign: “Wohngebiet der Juden. Betreten verboten” – “Jewish residential area. Entry forbidden”. Lodz, 1941.
The photograph shows a Gestapo police officer with a knife in its sheath outside the ghetto gate on Holzstraße (Drewnowska street) at the intersection with Zagajerska streets. A few meters inside the ghetto is seen a Jew with a yellow patch on his back, and two Jews looking through the gate. Photographed by Zermin of the PK 689 press photo unit.
