“Kaporet” for ark – Embroidery of thick silver threads. North Africa, early 19th century. Was made in memory of ‘Misa Gana NE [her soul Eden]’.
On the right and left, large vine leaves were embroidered on a dark red velvet cloth, with leaves and flowers in the center under the name of the deceased.
See a very similar example ( which may have served as a model for the “Kaporet” before us) in the ‘Feuchtunger Collection of Jewish Tradition and Art’ by Yeshayahu Shachar, item no. 172.
