La Voix Du Peuple Massacre Récit détaillé de l’insurrection du ghetto de Varsovie en Avril 1943 complété de documents, notices biographiques des principaux héros et de messages – Kol Ha’am – Massacre: A detailed account of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in April 1943, including documents, biographies of the key heroes, and messages, published by Réveil des Jeunes. Introduction by Marcel BIDOUX, Paris, 1945. French.

“Millions of Polish Jews were murdered, shot, or exterminated in the gas chambers!.. The Jewish socialists of Warsaw wrote with their blood pages of heroism and glory that honor them and elevate them in the eyes of the world. They found in their desire for freedom… the strength to revolt against Nazism; they stood against the uniformed executioners, armed only with their bare chests. They led the masses of Israel in Warsaw into battle. They died standing, throwing improvised grenades made in basements, with hearts full of nobility and pride…” (From Marcel Bidoux’s introduction).

An early and significant publication about the heroic months of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. It presents the story of the uprising in the ghetto, poems written by Jews under the most tragic conditions humanity has ever known, biographical records of several fighters compiled during the uprising, as well as firsthand testimonies about events during the revolt and the underground organization of The Bund, which functioned as an active resistance even before the uprising erupted.
The report meticulously details the stages of the uprising, as well as the Germans’ attempts to erase all traces of their crimes. It also addresses the critical question of why there was initially no armed resistance in the ghetto when it was first established. The ghetto’s inhabitants refused to believe the mass executions occurring outside the ghetto and preferred to accept the Germans’ false narrative that the deportees were being sent for “resettlement.” Therefore, they saw no reason to rise up in rebellion. Only when the Jews realized that the Germans were preparing to liquidate the ghetto itself on April 19, 1943, and the ghetto walls were covered with inscriptions reading “Die with honor, ” did many of them join the fight.

In the second part of the report, under the title “Messages, ” statements written by notable figures to representatives of The Bund on the first anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1944 are presented. Among them are the words of Eleanor Roosevelt: “In the end, we wonder if we have not lost the ability to be moved by human suffering. In a moment of doubt, we draw our faith and comfort from the heroism of the Warsaw Ghetto fighters… My message is—let us not forget!”; Albert Einstein: “They fought and died as Jews in the struggle against the Nazi executioners. Their sacrifice unites Jews across the world. United in suffering, we shall remain united in our efforts to build a better society, a society that our prophets set before us as an ideal.” ;Dorothy Thompson: “Through their struggle, the Jews have delivered this appeal to all: do not accept oppression! Fight! The dawn will break.” ;Fiorello La Guardia (Mayor of New York City): “I am firmly convinced that a wise message should have been sent to these brave defenders of Warsaw, telling them they are no longer fighting alone. These men and women have been reinforced by millions of free men and women, and all these millions of courageous and determined fighters are ready for battle, armed with the most powerful equipment for modern warfare… Tell the Polish underground to keep fighting. We have not forgotten them, and a new day is dawning. They have long been trampled under the boots of Nazi thugs, but soon their era of suffering will end…” And many others.

Additionally, transcripts of reports sent by the “Secret Bund of Poland” to its representatives in the United States during the uprising are included. These reports describe the ghetto’s situation during the uprising, contrasting with the world’s indifferent response to their plight.
