Legitimations Karte – “Legitimization Card for Local, Commercial Merchants, and Veteran Commercial Agents” – a personal certificate of the Jew Moses Wachs – granting him permission to trade in linen. Berlin, February 21, 1933 – just three weeks after the Nazi Party came to power and Hitler’s appointment as Chancellor of Germany. Rare.
The certificate contains Wachs’ personal details, born in 1892 in Bolszowce, Poland (now Ukraine), and his passport photo. On the right is written that the holder of this card is authorized to engage in the linen trade as the owner of the company “Max-Moses” in Berlin. At the bottom of the page on the right is written that the card must be carried at all times when the subject is engaged in commercial activity, and that it permits the bearer to search for orders for goods, to buy goods, to meet with merchants in their premises – in yards or private houses. and that the cardholder is authorized to possess the goods transported to the place of destination. On the first and second pages is an ink stamp of the Prussian Empire and a hand signature of the governor.
