Issue of the French magazine CRAPOUILLOT edited by RAMOND A. DIOR. The issue was released in September 1936 and was entirely dedicated to the topic “The Jewish Question” amidst the rise of anti-Semitism across Europe. Printed on thick and high-quality paper.
Following the widespread outbreak of anti-Semitic waves in Germany and beyond, this issue extensively reviews the phenomenon of anti-Semitism and its severe consequences for the Jewish people throughout history, particularly in modern times. Among other topics, it includes articles on the legend of the Wandering Jew, numerous early anti-Semitic caricatures that appeared in European literature over the past centuries and the early decades of the 20th century, references to the Dreyfus Affair, photographs of Jewish pogrom victims in the early 20th century, a photograph of Julius Streicher, the editor of the Nazi anti-Semitic newspaper ‘Der Stürmer, ‘ during a speech, the humiliation of Jews in the streets of Munich, and more. Additionally, there is a rare photograph of Rabbi Avraham Isaac Kook as ‘the Rabbi of Jerusalem’ and an article on the subject. “With all due respect to Adolf Hitler… and other scavengers of the Middle Ages, violence and slander have never managed to solve the Jewish question in any country…” (from the introduction). The editor criticizes the Nazis’ attempt to give scientific legitimacy to Jew-hatred and expresses concern about its severe consequences in the modern era.
