Letter in the handwriting and signature of the Rebbe of Erlau Rabbi Yochanan Sofer – a postcard sent from Magyar to Rabbi Shlomo Sofer regarding the law of Jews and the law of Rabbi Chaim Mashkovich, and understanding the languages of Maran Hatam Sofer, and other matters.

The Admor Rabbi Yohanan Sofer [1923-2016], served as rabbi and head of the “Ohel Shimon Erlau” yeshiva, a relic of the rabbis of the Hatam Sofer family, a fifth generation to the Hatam Sofer Survived the Hungarian holocaust Jewry. One of the leaders of the Agudat Israel Council. He dealt with the Torah throughout all his life, toil and dedication. He has authored Torah novellae and halachic rulings, and was one of the leading rabbis in the Land of Israel. Apart from that, he has worked extensively on the inclusion of the books of his genius ancestors and elders and the great genius books of Hungary. After the Holocaust, he served as rabbi in the city of Budapest. With his immigration to Israel, he established the Erlau Yeshiva and the Eralu Hasidic community, considered among the most important Hasidic communities founded in Israel after the Holocaust.
