BEVRIJDING – “Liberation” – A Printed Song Issued in Honor of the Liberation of the Netherlands from the Nazi Occupation. Lyrics and Music by Jo Mulder. The Hague, May 1945.

Lyrics of the song:

“Five years have passed, five years have passed; five years have gone by, now the day has risen again when we can show, like a true Dutch child, the love for justice that binds us to the Netherlands.

We think of the many who fell for their country, and we bow our heads, they are in the hands of the Lord. Oh, Father, guide the paths we must walk; and teach us, after the evil, to be open to the good.

Netherlands, here are your children, do not hesitate and do not stop! Keep building your future, even though no eye may see it, but the tricolor will wave again, and freedom will prevail, the sun will shine again, better times are coming.

Five years have passed, five years have passed; five years have gone by, now the day has risen again when we can show, like a true Dutch child, the love for justice that binds us to the Netherlands!”
