Suchdienst Liste Nr. 41 – Search List No. 41. “The Central Committee is searching for the following individuals. Anyone with information regarding their whereabouts is requested to report to the office.” A printed list of 292 missing Jews at the end of the war, issued by the International Red Cross in cooperation with Jewish organizations. Large printed sheet, 47×31 cm, Germany, 1947.

Next to each name, the list notes the city of birth and the last known location where the individual was seen or found. The list includes Jews from Lodz, Kovno, Lublin, Radomsk, Lemberg, Pinsk, Auschwitz, and many other places.
On the reverse side, there is a long list of parcels belonging to Jews that have not yet been collected by their families, with an urgent request for them to retrieve the parcels as soon as possible before they are distributed to the general public.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) operated search centers across Europe, including in areas under Nazi control. It established search units like the Search Bureau to coordinate the search for missing persons—whether they were in concentration camps, labor camps, or displaced. The Suchdienst (Search Service) worked in collaboration with organizations like the Jewish Agency and other Jewish groups to compile and publish lists of missing persons.

These lists, like the Suchdienst-Liste, were often the only means of maintaining connections and learning the fate of victims. However, information was often limited or delayed. Other organizations, such as the JDC (Joint Distribution Committee) and ORT, cooperated with the Red Cross to produce lists, distribute information, and respond to family inquiries, helping track missing relatives or understand their fates.

Large printed sheet, 47×31 cm, printed on both sides. Light creases. Condition: good.
