A large and magnificent Torah Ark Curtain (parochet), made of green velvet, with embroidery of gold and silver threads, leaves, flowers, and Stars of David. In the center is engraved the inscription: “כתפוח בעצי היער כן דודי בין הבנים בצל”ו חמדתי וישבתי לפ”ק אשר כמ”ר שמשון אפפע”ל ז”ל מרת פאנני תחי’ לזכרון בעלה אשר נפשה קשורה בנפשו איש מראשי בתי כנסיות וביהמ”ד פה ווינא היה, ומת בש”ק כ”ה מנחם אב שנת תרמ”א לפ”ק”.
The Embroidered hung on the Great Synagogue in Vienna for years, and as far as we know it was vandalized on Kristallnacht by Nazi rioters. After the war the Embroidered disappeared, and was found in recent years.
Size: 190X155 cm. Tears in the lower part of the velvet fabric in the center of the curtain, cracking of some of the wires attached to the lower part of the curtain. condition good- moderate.
