TERRAE SANCTAE TABVLA – An inverted map of palestine according to biblical times, on both sides of the Jordan – a wood engraving from Sebastian Minster’s book “Cosmography” – [Basel, 1550]. a rare map which was formed in reverse, with the Mediterranean Sea to the east.
The map, in addition to the landmarks of the tribal lands, depicts biblical scenes: the tents of Bnei Israel in the desert, a farmer drawing water for his flock, and the city of Sdom burning within the Dead Sea. On the left can be seen the copper snake.
