Postcard folder with drawings by Maurice Mendjisky – Series “Tribute to the Fighters of the Warsaw Ghetto Who Passed Away.”
Issued as part of a “Sale for the Homeless” published by the Institute for Research and Action Against World Poverty, after the war.
The postcards depict scenes of hunger and poverty in the Warsaw Ghetto: starving families, a woman holding her child; one of the postcards is a real photo postcard of Abbé Pierre himself with his daughter. On the reverse of all the postcards appears a quote by Abbé Pierre, one of the most prominent figures in France after World War II:
“… l’unique fondement sûr de l’intelligence pour l’homme d’action est la participation à la peine de ceux qui souffrent et désespèrent.” – “The only secure foundation for intelligence in the man of action is participation in the sorrow of those who suffer and despair.”
Complete set. 6 postcards. Original folder. Very good condition.
