The novel Tycho Brahe’s Path to G-d by Max Brod focuses on the final days of the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe in Prague and the contrasts between his worldview and that of Johannes Kepler, a representative of the Copernican perspective. The novel is part of Brod’s historical trilogy titled The Struggle for Truth, which also includes Reubeni, Prince of the Jews and Galileo in Chains. In this work, Brod explores the conflicts between science, religion, and humanity’s search for meaning. The book was translated into Hebrew and published by Shtibel in 1935.
Max Brod (1884–1968), a writer, publicist, and composer, was born in Bohemia (part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, now the Czech Republic) and held a doctorate in law from Charles University in Prague. Writing in German, Brod was a close friend of Franz Kafka and famously published Kafka’s works posthumously. In the final three decades of his life, Brod lived in Israel.
