Anthology of compositions by Menashe Ben Israel (1604-1657), concern the Jewish question and the Jews, were written as part of Ben Israel’s efforts to promote the Jewish right of return to England after their expulsion in 1290. Including the apologetic composition “Vindiciae Judaeorum” – An important essay that was submitted to the British Parliament that convened in 1655 as part of the discussions on the right of the Jews to return to England. The book, which was edited by the historian and journalist Lucien Wolff, is accompanied by three beautiful engravings – portraits of Ben Israel. Two of the engravings were made after Rembrandt.
