An official military document carried by recruits in the Reich, even outside the regular army framework. On the cover appears the Reich eagle and swastika, with the inscription Heer below, indicating the Army branch (Land Forces).
Paul Kiskuczák was an Austrian conscripted into the military system following the Anschluss, assigned to technical service in a communications unit in accordance with his professional background. He served in the rear between 1940–1943 and was not sent to the front. Born on November 6, 1908, into a Catholic family, Paul Kiskuczák held a technical profession: initially listed as a Maschinenschlosser (machine fitter/metalworker), and later as a Radiomonteur (radio technician). According to records, he originated from a Carpathian/Slavic region that, between the wars, fell within the borders of Czechoslovakia. After the Anschluss, he was registered for service through the Vienna draft district (Wien III / 08 / VIII). Initial registration was completed on February 1, 1940, by an officer with the rank of Major. He entered active service on June 3, 1940, and took the oath of allegiance on June 19. He was assigned to a technical unit within the communications corps: Nachrichtenersatzabteilung 17, first in 5. Kompanie, and later in the 1st Company. The Nachrichten units were responsible for communications – telephone and radio systems. On October 4, 1940, a temporary discharge was recorded, along with a payment of Entlassungsgeld (release compensation) of 50 RM, due to a medical condition. His service later resumed and continued until his final discharge on May 31, 1943, with the rank of Gefreiter (corporal).
